ทำไปทำไม...? - Why?

คุณเขียนบล็อกนี้ทำไม?
กระผมเป็นคนที่ชอบอ่านข่าวและชอบถกเรื่องการเมือง เพราะฉะนั้น จึงรู้ดีว่าบนเน็ตมีบล็อกนับไม่ถ้วนที่มีคนเล่าเรื่อง บ่น ให้ความเห็น หรือ ระบายอารมณ์ แต่ที่ผมอยากทำนอกจากการบ่นตามเคยคือการเสนอทางออกปัญหาต่างๆ รวมทั้งรับฟังสิ่งที่คนอื่นออกความเห็น

ที่คุณพูดมาก็ฟังดูดี แต่อะไรทำให้ที่นี่แตกต่างจากบล็อกอื่นๆ?
ไม่ทราบครับ ต้องลองอ่านและเปรียบเทียบดูเอง


แล้วถ้าหากฉันไม่เห็นด้วยกับวิธีการหรือความคิดของคุณ?
เราก็มาสนธนาแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดกันได้ จุดประสงค์ของที่นี่คือการแลกเปลี่ยนความคิด ผมรู้ว่าทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างที่ผมเขียนไปก็จะมีข้อผิดพลาด เพราะฉะนั้น บล็อกนี้ก็เป็นการขัดเกลาความคิดของตััวเองด้วย แค่ขอให้วิพากษ์วิจารณ์กันด้วยเหตุผลและหลักฐาน ไม่ใช่โดยความเท็จ หรือ อารมณ์

คุณเรียกตัวเองว่า "หัวก้าวหน้า" ทำไมหรือ?
ไม่ได้เรียกตัวเองอย่างนั้นเพราะคิดว่าตัวเองดีกว่า พัฒนากว่า หรือก้าวหน้ากว่าคนอื่นน่ะครับ เพราะที่จริงแล้วคำนี้มีรากฐานมาจากขบวนการในปลายศตวรรษที่ 19 และต้นศตวรรษที่ 20 ที่หวังจะปรับปรุงพัฒนาให้สังคมก้าวหน้า นอกจากนั้น ขบวนการเหล่าคนหัวก้าวหน้า ไม่ได้มีความคิดทางการเมืองที่บีบบังคับสมาชิก เหมือนคอมมิวนิสต์หรือกลุ่มอื่นๆ แต่จะเป็นกลุ่มคนที่รณรงค์ให้สังคมดีขึ้นทีล่ะประเด็น ที่สำคัญคือคนเหล่านี้ได้มีผลกระทบต่อสังคมของเขาอย่างจริงจัง และผมอยากเห็นประเทศไทยมีคนคอยผลักดันให้เราพัฒนาสังคมไปเรื่อยๆ แทนที่จะนิ่งเฉยแล้วคอยแก้ปัญหาเฉพาะหน้าเพียงอย่างเดียว

แรงบันดาล ใจที่ผมได้รับอีกอย่างคือนิตยสาร The Progressive ในอเมริกา ซึ่งเริ่มตีพิมพ์ตั้งแต่ต้นศตวรรษที่ 20 สิ่งที่น่าประทับใจที่สุดเกี่ยวกับนิตยสารนี้คือตลอดระยะเวลาอันยาวนาน หลักการของเขาแทบไม่ได้เปลี่ยนแปลงเลย ไม่ว่าหลักการเหล่านั้นจะได้รับความนิยมหรือไม่ แต่หัวของผู้คนที่เขียนบทความในนิตยสารเล่มนี้ก้าวหน้าโดยแท้ เขารณรงค์เรื่องการใช้สันติวิธีก่อนที่สันติวิธีจะเป็นที่นิยม เขารณรงค์ต่อต้านสิ่งที่ McCarthy ทำผิด ก่อนที่ McCarthy ในขณะที่ชาวอเมริกันคนอื่นๆ ถูกลวงให้หวาดระแวงภัยคอมมิวนิสต์ที่ไม่ได้มีอยู่จริงหรือ ที่ไม่ได้แย่เท่านั้นจริงๆ The Progressive เป็นตัวอย่างว่าสื่อที่ดีเลิศควรจะเป็นเช่นไร และการยึดหลักการไม่ว่าจะร้อนหรือจะหนาวเป็นอย่างไร เป้าหมายของผม คือการที่บล็อกนี้จะเพิ่มผู้เขียนเพิ่มนักคิดเพื่อร่วมกันเป็น A Thai Progressive ที่พยายามเฟ้นหาทางพัฒนาสังคมไทยให้ก้าวหน้าในทางที่ถูกต้องอยู่เรื่อยๆ

เพราะฉะนั้น หลักการของเราสามารถรับชมได้ใน entry ที่ชื่อว่า "จุดยืน"

Why?
Why is this blog here?
After taking part in my fair share of Internet as well as real life debates about politics, I feel that what we need is somewhere that's more than just a personal political blog for moaning, but also (alongside the moans) a place where I can suggest solutions. I earnestly believe a solution, no matter how seemingly idiotic, is better than an endless moan. There is a fine line between genius and idiocy, hence you never know where the next revolutionary idea will come from.

It all sounds rather ambitious, so what makes this place different?
You've got to see for yourself.

What if we think the way you do things is terrible or your ideas are rubbish?
Then you tell me and we can argue about it. Part of the point is to exchange views and see who's right. I don't claim to be right all the time. But it shouldn't be about personal victories or scoring points, it should be about what's the most reasonable and best supported by evidence.

Why did you choose to call yourself a 'progressive'?
'Progressive' is actually a really vague term, so I suppose that's why. But the main reason I chose it was because I don't just want to complain about the state of affairs but would like to actually influence and change Thai society. Numerous pointless arguments on the Internet helped me reach this epiphany: there are many stubborn people out there with whom you can argue with forever but in the end, what's the point? So here is me trying to make a point out of it and hoping others will agree that we need to move forward, make some sacrifices in our personal time and try to change things little by little. Another inspiration I had is from The Progressive, which is an American magazine that's been around since the early 20th century. What's remarkable and admirable is how it has stood by principles whether it was fashionable or not. It was founded in the Progressive Era and so epitomizes the strong desire to change things for the better. In this case by advocating change (and bringing change) through the media. So The Progressive in a way provides a template for advocacy and positive social influence. Hopefully we will have more contributors (who go along with my M.O. of course) and try to turn it into an outlet for progress in Thailand.
